The cause of the issue may occur due to:
- Security configuration that's blocking the workpaper from properly opening
Or
- The workpaper has become corrupt requiring to be repaired or restored from backup.
Follow theses steps to resolve the issue:
- Disable Reading View:
- In Microsoft Word click File.
- Click Options..
- Review on the General tab.
- Clear the checkbox: "Open E-Mail attachments and other uneditable files in reading view" to disable this option.
- Add Workpapers to Microsoft Office Trusted Locations:
- Open a Microsoft Word file and click File
- Click Options.
- Click Trust Center
- Click Trust Center Setting button.
- Click Trusted Locations
- Confirm or click the box to enable "Allow Trusted locations on my network (Not recommended)"
- Click Add New Location.
- In the file "Path:" type C:\Pfx Engagement\WM\Workpapers.
- NOTE: If the environment is a Terminal Server Database and Terminal Server Client set of servers the path will be : \\Terminal Server Database Machine Name\Workpapers.
- Check the box Sub-folders of this location are also trusted.
- Click OK.
- Disable Protected Mode:
- Open a Microsoft® Word file and click File > Options.
- Click Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
- Click Protected View, and clear all checkboxes.
- Open the file from within your binder.
- If it opens in Reading View, click View.
- Click Edit Document.
- Save the file and reopen it.
- Check antivirus logs and confirm if either the antivirus is performing: Live scanning, application control, application monitoring, or if it's terminating WINWORD.exe or the Epace.dot add-in.
- If the error persists after making the above changes, repair the workpaper as explained by opening the file outside of Engagement or Workpaper Manager explained in the steps below:
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Switch back into Engagement or Workpaper Manager and follow the below article to locate the "Workpaper Path" of the binder and the "GUID" of file name of the workpaper.

- Using the tools in Microsoft® Word run an Open and Repair to the document.
- Save the file in Microsoft Word after repairing the document.
- If the workpaper is unable to be repaired and if multiple users are encountering the same issue then the workpaper will need to be restored from backup. If no backup is available then the workpaper will need to be recreated. Contact the system administrator to perform the below article.
