RDS Frequently asked questions

1. Where should I save?

- Save files to the U drive or other network drives or Profx Document.

2. How can I access my local drive in the field for scanning?

- RDS Out of Office will map your local C drive, all scanned files can be accessed from there.

3. I setup fences but now they are gone?

- Fences are not supported as it is a third party software, since we have 6 RDS servers you would need to set them up on each.

4. What is the difference between RDS office vs RDS Out of Office

- RDS Office is for access when in Fairfield, Red Bank, or Juno office. RDS Out of Office is for when at a client or at home.

5. How can I setup RDS to use one monitor?

- Before logging into RDS, right click on the RDS icon and hit edit, under the display tab uncheck “use all my monitors for remote session”. It’s all monitors or just one, we can’t do select screens. Save.

6. How to adjust for performance or experience?

- Before logging into RDS, right click on the RDS icon and hit edit, under the experience tab change the drop down to “Low-speed broadband” for performance or “LAN” for rich graphics. Save.

7. Why RDS is slow at home or at client?

- RDS is only as fast as your internet connection. For best performance use a hardwired connection and if at a client use a hotspot.

8. What happens if I get disconnected due to internet or network issues?

- RDS has a feature called “Keep alive”, the connection will keep trying to re-connect automatically for a short period of time. If internet or network issues last longer than the “keep alive” interval (3 hours), RDS will hold your work for 3 hours before fully logging you off.

9. What if I step away for more than 3 hours?

- Save and log off RDS or you will lose work.

10. If any software is upgraded would I need to do anything on RDS?

- No but please fully read any upgrade documentation sent out by IT

11. Can I save to the desktop?

- Yes but anything saved to RDS desktop is not backed up and can be lost. IT recommends saving to the network drives or Profx Document

12. When done for the day can I click the “X” to close out of RDS?

- No, please log off from the start menu. Closing the RDS session in any other way can cause profile issues.

13.  What happens when internet connection goes down in the office, client, or home?

- If internet is down you can literally go to any place that has internet connection and be able to access RDS at our Data Center.

14. Can I click and drag from my local drive to RDS?

- All files should be on the U drive or another network drive, local access would not be needed. We can setup access to local C drive if this isn’t an option.

15. Why is Word and Excel open slower on RDS?

- Request IT send a link to the knowledge base articles which were sent out when Office365 was upgraded.

16. What is TSPrint?

- TSPrint allows you to print to local printers from RDS.
